Eco-Friendly Mattress
Question
My son wakes up every morning with a skin discoloration and itchy skin. We
believe it is being caused by his mattress. We are considering an eco-friendly
mattress for him, but wanted to get your insight as to what we should do.
Thanks for your help.
Answer
Thank you for your question. First we recommend consulting with your physician
and consider having your son being tested for latex allergies.
Synthetic or polyurethane mattresses are often times comprised of chemicals such as fire retardant chemicals. By law in California (Proposition 65) these chemicals have to be listed so that consumers understand the risks involved when purchasing products that contain them. Certain chemicals have been known to cause birth defects and other maladies.
Vytex Natural Rubber Latex (NRL) in its raw state does not contain these potentially harmful chemicals. Furthermore, proteins in latex can cause allergic reactions. Vytex NRL has significantly reduced the level of proteins from the composition of their latex products to help those in need of a less allergenic alternative.
For more information on allergies, visit the American Academy of Asthma, Allergy and Immunology website. For further information on Vytex NRL or to find products made with Vytex NRL. We also recommend looking for the “Vytex® NRL” logo for a better latex with significantly reduced antigenic protein levels.
