Latex Allergy Balloons

The link between latex allergy and balloons has caused great concern, especially among parents who have realized a child has a high sensitivity level to latex. Constant exposure to products such as balloons and pacifiers that contain latex can be troublesome for those who suffer from latex allergies. Symptoms of an allergic reaction to latex include:

  • Skin Irritation
  • Skin Rash
  • Hives
  • Watery or Irritated Eyes
  • Swollen Eyes
  • Itching and/or Difficulty Breathing

Vytex® Natural Rubber Latex (NRL) is an innovative latex material with significantly reduced levels of the allergy-causing proteins commonly found in natural rubber latex. It was designed as a "drop in" material and integrates seamlessly into manufacturing operations that currently use NRL or synthetic substitutes. This development means that balloons can be manufactured with this new material and retain all of the desirable qualities of latex, with the added benefit of substantially reduced protein levels. These reduced levels substantially decrease the risk of developing allergic reactions to latex.

There are roughly 40,000 products made from latex. The chances of coming into contact with a product made from latex, such as balloons, are very high. If you believe you suffer from latex allergies, contact your physician about your concerns and consider being tested for latex allergy.
