Balloon Allergic Reaction

Question

I have experienced an allergic reaction whenever I come into contact with a balloon. I am 34 years old and have never had any type of allergic reaction before. What do you recommend I do?

Answer

It may be that you have a latex allergy. First, we recommend contacting your physician or healthcare provider about your concerns and consider being tested for latex allergy. We also believe you should take note of any product you come into contact with regularly that contains latex. In addition to balloons, this may include some baby toys, medical gloves, condoms, and even the elastic threads in your clothes. These are just some of the 40,000 products on the market that contain latex that could be harmful to you.

Vytex® Natural Rubber Latex (NRL) is an eco-friendly latex material that has virtually undetectable levels of the antigenic proteins found in NRL. Produced through a novel, patented process, Vytex NRL retains all the positive qualities of latex including barrier protection, tensile strength, elasticity, comfort and fit with virtually undetectable levels of the antigenic proteins that can cause latex allergies. The advantages of Vytex NRL include:
  • Retains all the desired characteristics of NRL
  • Reduces probability of developing latex allergies in non-sensitized individuals
  • Considered safe for use by individuals who are not latex-sensitive
