Historically, repeated exposure to certain proteins found in latex products has been found to be the underlying cause of latex allergies and skin irritation for many individuals. Latex allergy skin irritation often manifests itself with a skin rash, hives and itching. More severe reactions can go beyond skin irritation and may involve respiratory symptoms such as runny nose, sneezing, itchy eyes, scratchy throat and asthma-like symptoms (difficulty breathing, coughing spells and wheezing).

Many common household items are manufactured from natural rubber latex. While the amount of exposure to the proteins in natural rubber latex needed to cause sensitization or symptoms is not known, repeated exposure can result in sensitization and can trigger allergic reactions in some individuals.

If you are concerned you may have a reaction to latex products, you should discuss your symptoms with your doctor.
